If you are sending your pet to a dog boarding facility for the first time, then this can be a terrifying experience for your pet. Here’s how to make sure your pooch avoids the kennel blues.
Spend some extra time together
Your dog will feel less lonely after spending all that time together. It’s also going to help you emotionally cope with the separation, especially if this is the first time you’re going to be away from your pooch.
Prepare a list
Talk to the staff about everything your pet needs. Prepare a list for them in advance. Then discuss the items on the list with the staff just to make sure you’re both on the same page. It may sound a bit tedious, but this can make a difference in making sure that your dog gets the pet care that they need.
Reserve early
Don’t try to leave kennel reservations till the last minute. Kennels have limited space. You don’t want to find out they are fully booked. If you’re booking during peak times, like the holidays, then you’ll want to make reservations early, the PetMD says.
Be calm
Your pooch will take his cue from you. Be calm and confident about the separation. If it’s a good kennel with lots of other dogs, he’s probably not going to miss you very much. With a good kennel a dog should be able to be busy playing with other dog’s. He’s going to be okay, so don’t worry.
