What Makes Aluminum Fabrication Different
Aluminum fabrication is different from fabricating other metals because it’s often extruded; extrusion involves drawing the aluminum rods through a die or a mold, to shape it and create a product. Aluminum extrusion can be done using heated metal, to make it more malleable, or, since aluminum is so soft, at room temperature.
Extrusion is the preferred method of working with aluminum. That’s because it’s brittle and can break if too much force is used, such as the pounding a blacksmith performs to shape iron. Since extrusion puts less stress on it, the aluminum can keep most of its strength.
Likewise, there are different grades of aluminum, which allow aluminum fabricators to create a wide variety of items.
