Weight Loss Self Hypnosis: is it for Real?

by | Sep 4, 2013 | Health

Despite having been written about, discussed and actually clinically proven for a number of years, self hypnosis in general and weight loss self hypnosis in particular are considered arcane subjects by most people. That is to say, they remain shrouded in mystery and thought of as something akin to voodoo. It’s time to lay all that to rest and see what these techniques can do to help us all lose weight.

If the desire is there, the work has already begun. Forget everything your mind associates with stage hypnosis. You will not cluck like a chicken or walk like a duck. All we are discussing here is a state of deep relaxation accompanied by positive mental suggestions, sometimes called affirmations. Besides, you are in complete control of the situation the entire time, so there is nothing to fear. The actual relaxation procedure is a little too long to go into here, but it is similar to meditation. Pick a quiet time and place so you will not be disturbed, lay or sit down and make sure to place a pillow under your head and neck in case you fall asleep.

Once you are completely relaxed, suggestion (affirmation) comes into play. Remember that your mind will not accept anything from the weight loss self hypnosis procedure that it knows will do you harm. Give yourself a simple suggestion in a positive form. One that comes to mind is ‘I prefer the taste of healthy food over junk food.’ Whether you believe that now or not, human nature dictates that you will eventually believe it as you continue to work on these procedures. As a plus, it will become easier with practice, especially after you lose few pounds.

None of this is meant to suggest that the mind can do it all. Diet and exercise are still key players in your weight loss program. Just the same, why not give yourself an extra bit of ‘edge,’ especially when it costs nothing and feels good? Once you reach your target weight goal, continued use of this technique has been proven to keep the weight off longer. Besides, who among us couldn’t benefit from a few minutes of relaxation in our daily lives? We just have to figure out how to make the time and then go do it.
