Your legal duty doesn’t end here; the Asbestos Management Plan is specifically required under the Control of Asbestos Regulations’ Regulation 4. The Asbestos Management Plan must be developed in such a way that is going to outline how you intend to manage the asbestos or minimize the posed risks.
In addition, part of your duty to manage every piece of Asbestos Containing Material discovered in the asbestos survey is to organize yearly re-inspection to observe the condition then accordingly amend the asbestos management plan.
Asbestos Management Survey – Keep in mind:
- Any structure built prior to 2000 potentially may contain Asbestos
- The Asbestos Management Survey is made to find as far as practicable the presence and extent of Asbestos Containing Materials inside a structure.
- An asbestos register will be drawn up in the event Asbestos Containing Materials are uncovered.
- Asbestos becomes an issue if it has been disturbed or damaged and the fibers become airborne.
- Non-domestic structures have to have an asbestos register containing which Asbestos Containing Materials were identified in the first survey. These must be managed and the register regularly updated.
- The Asbestos Management Plan must be developed which outlines how you intend to manage the asbestos or minimalize its risks posed.
