Discussing Your Health With Your Doctor Before Your Hair Transplant in PA

Certain health conditions may raise your risk for complications following surgical procedures. While most people sail right through their hair transplants in PA without any problems, you should discuss your current health conditions with the doctor prior to your surgery. Here are some medical disorders to talk to your physician about during your pre-operative appointment.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that causes scaly plaques to develop on your skin. A type of psoriasis known as psoriatic arthritis can cause joint pain in addition to the plaques. If you have psoriasis, you may have plaques on the back of your neck and scalp, which may need to be treated before undergoing your hair transplant in PA. Psoriasis can also cause hair loss, itching, and a scaly scalp. Corticosteroids and biologic medications may help clear up your skin so that you enjoy a better result from your transplant. Your hair transplant doctor will work with your rheumatologist or auto-immune specialist before, during, and after surgery to ensure the psoriasis is under control and any flare-ups are treated effectively.

Bleeding Disorders

If you have a bleeding disorder such as a low platelet count or hemophilia, your hair transplant surgeon may delay your procedure until he or she consults with your hematologist. Bleeding disorders may raise the risk for heavy bleeding both during and after surgery. Bleeding risks may be further heightened if you take certain medications such as aspirin, prescription anticoagulants, or certain cardiovascular medications. If you take any of these medications, your surgeon will coordinate with your hematologist or cardiologist who may recommend stopping them a week or so before your hair transplant. Remember not to stop any prescription medications without instructions from the managing doctor.

If you suffer from any of these medical conditions and are considering a hair transplant, please call us to discuss or see our website at web for more information.
