Dr. Adam J. Cohen is a plastic surgeon noted for his eyelid lift in Chicago. He earned his medical degree at Albany Medical College and has over 20 years of experience. What is an eyelid lift?
An eyelid lift in Chicago is more formally known as a blepharoplasty. It can be done on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. Similarly, it can be done on its own or in conjunction with another procedure like a brow lift.

As a person ages, their skin become less elastic and starts to sag. Sagging skin in the lower eyelids creates bags and wrinkles, while sagging skin can in the upper eyelids can droop over the eyelashes and actually obscure vision. While eyelids lifts are generally considered cosmetic surgery, they do have a functional aspect as well.

The patient will be given a local anesthetic and/or an intravenous sedative to keep them comfortable. If Dr. Cohen is working on all four eyelids, he will typically do the upper eyelids first. He will make incisions along the creases of the eyelids and remove the excess skin and fat. He will then stitch the incisions closed.

When working on the lower eyelid, Dr. Cohen will usually make the incision on the inside of the eyelid. He will then remove excess skin and fat and tighten the remaining skin. A patient who undergoes an eyelid lift can look forward to a more youthful and energetic look.

Most people need about ten days of recovery time. The most common side effects are swelling and bruising, which will fade towards the end of the recovery period. Many patients undergo a blepharoplasty on a Friday, so they can take the next week off from work and then return to the office on the second Monday after the procedure.
