Preparing Your Dallas Office Staff For Commercial Movers

by | Feb 12, 2016 | Moving Companies

While any Dallas business working with top commercial movers will find that the moving company will handle the vast majority of the planning and moving, there are still some tasks that the business can do in advance of the move.

Helping employees to be prepared for the arrival of the commercial movers starts with talking to the move coordinator from the moving company and developing both a timeline as well as a list of tasks. This can be provided to employees as a handy checklist so they are fully prepared for moving day.

Depending on the type of move and if the commercial movers are completing some or all of the packing for the office or business, the following may be tasks that employees will need to complete prior to specific dates correlating to the move.

Packing Supplies and Materials

Non-breakable items, extra supplies and materials can be packed early in the process. The moving company can provide specialized boxes for different items, including unused computers and electronics to allow for very safe storage and moving.

It will be important when packing records, books, files and other materials not to fill boxes based on the capacity of the box, but rather to a reasonable weight to be easily moved.

Electronics
Most commercial movers will schedule the move at a time that is convenient for the business and results in minimal downtime. This may mean moving overnight for a small office, or even moving over a weekend for a larger business.

Typically the day of the move each employee will be asked to shut off and unplug all computers and electronics in their office space. Cords can be disconnected, as are keyboards, the mouse and other peripherals. These can be placed in zipped-lock types of storage bags and clearly labeled as to which device they connect.

Desks
The best commercial movers will not move desks unless all drawers are emptied. In general, it is a good idea for employees to remove all items and box items with clear labels as to the office where they will be required at the new destination.

Personal items such as photographs, artwork, sentimental or valuable things should be moved by the employee themselves, as this is personal property and not company items.

It is a good idea for the staff to meet at least once with a representative from the Dallas moving company. This allows them to ask questions and get clarity on what they can do to be fully prepared for the commercial movers.
